Police detain over a dozen protesters in New York

Protesters wound through Manhattan streets throughout the afternoon and evening in demonstrations demanding a thorough count of ballots cast in the U.S. presidential race, calling for racial justice and criticizing police. Reuters could not independently determine what led to the arrests, but local media reported police and protesters clashed in the city’s West Village, where several handcuffed people could be seen being led to a waiting police bus. Later, at least five people were seen being put into a police van near Union Square. An email to the New York Police Department seeking to clarify the number and nature of the arrests was not immediately answered.
